I'm Jessica Devine, and I'm a member of the Southborough School Committee (K-8). I've lived in our town for 15 years. I'm a mom to two girls — an 8th grader and a 5th grader — and have a fabulously supportive husband, Steve.
For many years I had my own business, J. Devine Creative, and I was all about delivering amazing marketing and communications that helped companies achieve business results. In 2018 I started working with Southborough's very own Chestnut Hill Farm and managed the farm's marketing and events. Now I am the farm's Engagement Manager, which means I head up their marketing, events, and community relations. It's a big job and I love it. You can't beat the job perk of cuddling with baby goats and newborn lambs, that's for sure!
I volunteered in the Southborough schools ever since my oldest was in kindergarten. Now that my girls are older, volunteer opportunities have dwindled but I help out when I can. I was a library volunteer every year while the opportunity was there, and I’ve also been a room parent several times. The Devines are a soccer family -- I coached my younger daughter’s team for five years. My community involvement started with Kindergroup, and now I mostly focus on contributing through School Committee, town organizations, and through my CHF work.
My School Committee goals
I believe that if Southborough's citizens want to see improvements in our government, they need to step up and get involved — so that's why I ran for School Committee. Our schools are fantastic and I want to help keep them strong. But there are changes I’d like to see, and from talking with people in town over the years, I know they are changes many of us want to see!
Safer schools, less-stressed kids, better communication from our school administration and School Committee, real accessibility and transparency, flexible opportunities for parent engagement, school budget efficiencies... these are all goals of mine as a School Committee member.
What's this blog all about?
This is my personal blog — NOT the blog of the Southborough School Committee. There is no such thing! All blog posts are my thoughts and opinions, and do not represent the thoughts and opinions of anyone else on the School Committee or in the administration.
On this blog I'll recap School Committee meetings and write about education and raising kids. I hope you'll take part in the discussion! Please check out my blog's rules and commenting policy. Thanks!
