I'm Jessica Devine, and I'm a member of the Southborough School Committee (K-8). I've lived in our town for 14+ years. I'm a mom to two girls — a 7th grader and a 4th grader — and recently celebrated my 15th wedding anniversary with my husband, Steve.
My business, J. Devine Creative, is all about delivering amazing marketing and communications that help companies achieve business results. Currently my main client is Southborough's very own Chestnut Hill Farm — I work for the farm's owner, The Trustees, and manage the farm's marketing and events.
I’ve volunteered in the Southborough schools ever since my oldest was in kindergarten. I have been a library volunteer every year, and I’ve also been a room parent several times. The Devines are a soccer family, and I’m on my fifth year of coaching my younger daughter’s team. My community involvement started with Kindergroup, and now I’m part of the Working Moms of Southborough group.
My School Committee goals
I believe that if Southborough's citizens want to see improvements in our government, they need to step up and get involved — so that's why I ran for School Committee. Our schools are fantastic and I want to help keep them strong. But there are changes I’d like to see, and from talking with people in town, I know they are changes many of us want to see!
Safer schools, less-stressed kids, better communication from our school administration and School Committee, real accessibility and transparency, flexible opportunities for parent engagement, school budget efficiencies... these are all goals of mine as a School Committee member.
What's this blog all about?
This is my personal blog — NOT the blog of the Southborough School Committee. There is no such thing! All blog posts are my thoughts and opinions, and do not represent the thoughts and opinions of anyone else on the School Committee or in the administration.
On this blog I'll recap School Committee meetings and write about education and raising kids. I hope you'll take part in the discussion! Please check out my blog's rules and commenting policy. Thanks!
